    Art: The Visual World              Semester Course: 2.5 Credits

    Students explore the relationship between art, culture, history, and themselves.  The course provides experience in art history, art criticism, aesthetics, and studio work.  Students are encouraged to express themselves creatively.  This course is required for graduation.

     

    COURSE CONCEPT:

    DBAE: Discipline Based Art Education is the teaching of Art as a valued academic subject through focusing on all of Art’s Disciplines in the teaching process listed below:

     

    AESTHETICS-search for beauty and taste related to the visual arts

    ART HISTORY-knowledge about the contributions made by artists, reflects on culture/society

    ART CRITICISM-description, analysis, evaluation, interpretations, and judgments of art

    ART PRODUCTION-creating and producing artwork

     

    GRADING INFORMATION:

    Major tests                              42.5%  (7-8 tests)

    Hands on                                 42.5%  (7 – 8 projects)

    Notebook homework/journal  15%     (30 – 40 grades).

     

    ATTENDANCE:

    Students are considered in loss of credit status when the total number of absences (excused and/or unexcused) reached eight (8) in a semester course.  Late arrival to class during the school day counts as an absence on the ration of two (2) lates equals one (1) absence if the lateness exceeds five (5) minutes.

     

    ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
    iPods, etc. and cell phones are not permitted during the school day.  In accordance with the state stature 2c:33-19.  Shroe Regional prohibits students from possessing beepers while in school.

     

    ALL RULES IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK WILL BE UPHELD.  PLEASE READ THE ATTACHED CLASSROOM/STUDIO RULES, SIGN AND RETURN TO THE INSTRUCTOR TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SYLLABUS WAS READ AND AGREED UPON.
