    Ron Yamello, a 1972 graduate, was one of the outstanding javelin throwers in the history of the Shore Regional Track Program.

    Ron began blossoming in his sport as a sophomore placing fourth in the javelin at the NJSIAA Group II Championships.  During the following summer, he competed with the Shore Athletic Club and participated in the Junior Olympics.

    As a junior, Ron received 3rd Team All Shore honors in the javelin as he continued to work on his strength and conditioning throughout the year.

    It was in his senior year that Ron became one of the top javelin throwers in the Shore Conference, in New Jersey and nationally.  A 1st Team All Shore performer, Ron won the Shore Conference Championship with a throw of 203’ 11”.  In the Central Jersey Group II Championships, Ron won with a toss of 216’ which was a meet record.  He finished 2nd in the NJSIAA Meet of Champions with 204’ 6” throw.  Ron won the Eastern Championships setting the Shore record with a throw of 226’ 11” which in 1972, was the third farthest throw in NJ state history and is listed today as the 12th best in NJ track history. During 1972, Ron was listed highly in United States ranking and was named an All American.

    Ron continued to compete after graduation, winning the Loucks Memorial Meet in New York and finishing third in the Golden West Invitational Track Meet in Sacramento, California.
