    Karen Strollo Miles

    Karen Strollo Miles, a 1977 graduate, earned 10 varsity letters in four sports during her scholastic career and became just the second female athlete at Shore to earn a full athletic scholarship.

    Of all her sports, Karen excelled in Field Hockey.  As a sophomore, she scored six goals and helped her team win the first of three consecutive Shore Conference Championships.

    In her junior year, Karen was named to the 2nd Team All State (first field hockey player to be named to the All- State Team), and 1st Team All Shore, leading the Shore in scoring with 19 goals and was the team’s MVP.

    As a senior, Karen was named to the 1st Team All State, (1st field hockey player to be named to the 1st Team All State) and 1st Team All Shore scoring 16 goals.  She was the team’s Offensive MVP and co-captain.  Karen finished her career with 41 goals.

    Upon graduation, Karen continued her education and field hockey career at Western Illinois University where she led the team in scoring as a freshman and was the team captain in her junior and senior years.  Karen was named to the Division I All -State team as a junior when she helped her team win the Illinois College Championship. Karen was inducted into the Western Illinois Hall of Fame in 2001.

    Karen is currently a Physical Education teacher in Illinois and has started a club called The Yak Yak Sisters which sponsors events such as kayaking, biking, snowshoeing, hiking and pickle ball just to name a few.
