Name: Jaylen Hickson
Role Model: My role model would have to be Frida Kahlo, the reason why I say this is due to the fact that Frida was an aspiring artist and a light among the artist community. Her pieces that she creates drive me to be more in touch with how I feel. Frida expressed her deepest emotions throughout her artwork in very particular ways, dark, scary, beautiful and sorrowful; leaving the viewer to take her feelings and conjure up their own perception of the piece. She suffered and endured so much throughout her life and still remained resilient which drives me to be a better person and forces me to try to strive for the best even in the darkest times in my life. Her being and artworks show me that you can express yourself without the use of words, without a voice. I can feel comfort in painting and drawing better than I do talking about how I feel, and with my feelings I create artworks that have depth and reveal a deep timeline of trials and triumph. Frida knew that with hard work and deep motivation within the work that you do, can bring you solace and peace and that is exactly what I want in life, and she shows me that you have to bite your tongue and face the struggles in the world to become successful in the world that we all live in today. She reflects humbleness and beauty and is the definition of a true artist, one who is truthful, sensitive, and, so vulnerable and aware to herself and the world around her. She defines a true artist, and the type of person I want to hopefully be.
Teacher with the most impact: The teacher I feel had the most impact on me would have to be Mrs Lavin, who teaches, 2D design and IB art. The reason why I feel this way is because Mrs Lavin has a strong will to providing only the best for her classroom and her students. The past three years taking her classes and being an IB art student have taught me that being creative can be a marvelous thing. Mrs Lavin has a sense in true artistry and history, and facts, she is honestly one of the best people I have gotten to know. Throughout the days of school I've been applying to different scholarships and contest's and with some success and with some no avail. However, Mrs Lavin pushes me to know that I'm worth something, she shows me that failures don't reflect anything of me. She has shown be that I should take constructive criticism and change them to make my artwork that I create better and more sound. I've realized that every new piece I create with her incite and knowledge, I am progressing in my processes and pieces. Mrs Lavin truly and deeply cares about her students well being and it truly warms my heart that I get to have an art teacher her. She has taught me expression and beauty in the art world in ways I've never seen before. She has taught me to be ok with reflecting how I feel in my artwork, she has taught me to be humble and genuine. Within these three years of being a student at Shore, she has partaken in teaching me that it is truly ok to be me. She saw a light in me and guides me with hard work and teaching to success. Mrs Lavin is a genuine person and I don't know how I would stand at this moment as a young artist without a teacher like her.
What do you like most about Shore Regional? The thing I like the most about Shore is the art department. The art department has teachers who are strong in hand with their knowledge of art and history, and I greatly appreciate that I get to have influences who truly care about their work with students and the school.

Right now, outside of school I am currently enrolled in the Rhode Island school of design summer program due to a scholarship i have received for my artistic abilities. I volunteer as a scare actor and makeup artist for the Camp Evans base of terror haunted trail. Outside of school as well, I sell merchandise of my artwork on T-shirts and posters. I do commission artwork and I draw and paint portraits and tattoo designs for the public.
Future Plans: I see myself hopefully in the next ten years as a concept designer for video games and TV shows and an oil painter in the next ten years. I see myself owning my own tattoo business on the side and maybe even having my own art gallery in the west coast. If I work hard enough towards this i may be able to reach my truly desired lifestyle.

Role Model: My role model is my family's nanny. She has been with me ever since I was young and has taught me many important morals in life which have shaped me into the person I am today. She taught me to look forward when I am down and has gifted me the ability to believe in a better future.
Teacher with the most impact: I have met many teachers throughout my academic school years who have impacted me greatly. One of the teachers who has impacted me is Mrs. Simonson, the French teacher. Although I am not one of her students since I do not take French, she is the supervisor of a club that I am in, the International Club. Mrs. Simonson has helped me from the start of my freshman year and has allowed me to grow not only as a student, but also as an individual and as a leader.
What do you like most about Shore Regional? I like the freedom Shore Regional High School has to offer. Compared to middle school and elementary school, Shore Regional has given me the chance to build my own character and hone in on skills that are necessary for college.
Activities: Some activities that I am currently involved in are the International Club, the Red Cross Club, Math League, Tennis, Bowling, etc. One activity that I use to participate in that was outside of school was attending Chinese school every Saturday. I have since then already graduated.
Future Plans: In ten years, I hope to see myself with a career that brings me happiness and fulfills my goals in life.
