The Monmouth County Library at Manalapan is pleased to welcome and present former NFL player Wade Davis as their guest speaker for the evening. Mr. Davis played for the National Football League from 2000-2004 – first with the Tennessee Titans, and later with the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins. He is involved in GLSEN’S (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) Sports Project, “Changing The Game” which is an initiative designed to combat homophobia in K-12 sports by opening conversations in schools and on teams about the issue. There will be a question and discussion period following Mr. Davis's presentation. Fro more info on Wade Davis, please visit http://nomoredownlow.tv/?p=1305
April 11, 2012 at our Toms River location, we will be having Ryan Cassata, an 18-year-old transgender male, songwriter/musician and activist, who will be speaking about life as a transgender teen, his school and home life, his surgery, and his musical ambitions. He will also be playing his songs for us. There will be a question and answer period following his presentation.Ryan has previously been on the Tyra Banks and Larry King shows. This meeting is open to all three PFLAG groups and those who would like to attend, and as I was only able to get Ryan for one night coinciding with his other venues in NJ that week, Wed, 04/11/12 was his date of availability for us. Due to the large amount of people that we anticipate attending this, and the limited amount of space we have, I will ask that, as we get closer to the date, please RSVP so we know that we will have enough seats and do not have a fire hazard. More info will follow in upcoming emails. For more info on Ryan, please visit http://www.ryancassata.com/
Our upcoming support group meetings are:
Monday, January 9, 2012, 7 PM, Shrewsbury (PFLAG)
Wednesday, January 11, 2012, Toms River (PFLAG)
Monday, January 16, 2012, Shrewsbury (Transgender/Transfamilies)
As always, we are available by email and phone if ever you need to speak privately.
Please also be aware that, although we try to never cancel meetings, if the weather is unsafe, we will cancel a meeting. Please always check our website, Facebook page, or call our hotline to check before coming to a meeting to see if it is canceled due to weather conditions, or for updates.
