This Spring, the New Jersey Department of Education will require public school districts to administer
the third year of the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) in
English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades 3-11. The initial administration of this
assessment took place in 2015, replacing the NJASK and HSPA.
The PARCC is aligned to the teaching standards by which classroom instruction is guided. The data
gathered through this assessment provides valuable information about student learning and teaching
practices. This data, combined with other student performance indicators, will also assist in guiding
student placement for future courses and/or programs.
Our district team has focused on ensuring that the upcoming assessment experience minimizes
disruption to our students’ schedules to allow for daily instruction to continue throughout the
assessment window in a “Delayed Opening” format.
